Please look at the picture below. Is it a photo of Korean actress Song Hye Kyo? Well... Wrong! It's not a photo but a computer-generated image created by Max Edwin Wahyudi of Indonesia.
This 24-year-old boy submitted this piece to the CGI forum CGTalk four months ago and he's been making waves ever since.
Modelling was done with 3D Studio Max and zBrush for the rendering. It was also given five stars out of a five score by the CG Society and won the CG Choice Award Winner award. The CG Society is the most respected and accessible global organization for creative digital artists.
Computer graphics (CG) is the field of visual computing where one utilizes computers both to generate visual images synthetically and to integrate or alter visual and spatial information sampled from the real world.

"Eh, don't simply put one pic up and say it was a CG huh!? It looks so real to believ it!! haha..." said a comment on the Net regarding Wahyudi's piece.
"Regardless, I gotta say well done, Max. That is the most realistic CG human I've seen to date," said another comment. "Why he choose Song Hye Kyo to be rendered? Apart from a challenge from his friends, it's also caused 'she is my favourite actress'," he said.
He explained that making the head accurately was the most important part. "I made her smile just for fun, but it turned out to be a very difficult process."
To start with, he collected the actress' pictures for reference. But due to the lack of good images of her on the Internet, he decided to grab them from her movies.
Wahyudi also wrote a tutorial for rendering the picture on the CGArena site, so you can follow step-by-step the rendering process.
It's nice to know that Indonesian IT is not too far behind other countries. Wahyudi has successfully put Indonesia on the map in terms of the CG world today.
